Why Practice Mindfulness?

Practicing Mindfulness is as much an art as it is science.  There are alternate states of consciousness that exist mostly outside of our everyday experience.  Becoming mindful, or cultivating mindfulness, as it’s sometimes referred to, gives us the ability to see the truth in everything.  It frees us from the layers of crap that we accumulate throughout life.

These layers are filters that come between our senses and our minds. Each stimuli and event that we experience adds another subtle filter between our senses and brain. When we clear out the filters, we begin to see life as it truly is.

Mindfulness Is Elusive

In theory, becoming mindful sounds simple, yet it remains elusive for most of us.  This is because life always gets in the way of practice.   Mindfulness exercises can bring us back to the present moment, but take work and dedication to be effective.

There are always things in life that draw us away from the present moment and entice us to fall asleep again.  The Hindus call this “Maya”, and we are all trapped in it. Maya is the delusion that what we see through the filters as reality, when in truth, it’s only, in many cases, a grossly distorted reality.

Becoming Mindful

Mindfulness exercises have been around for thousands of years, and are regaining popularity.  People like Jon Kabat-Zinn and Congressman Tim Ryan have been bringing the present moment to the forefront.  In truth, practicing mindfulness can help with a host of conditions ranging from mild worry and anxiety, to post traumatic stress disorder, otherwise known as (PTSD).This site is here to explore mindfulness through many different avenues of practice.

The present moment is an experience like no other, and can take considerable practice to feel.  Then again, it can come in an instant, because we all live in it every moment of our lives. Through meditation and mindfulness, one can relieve symptoms of anxiety and come to terms with fears, aversions, obsessions, anger, and a host of other undesirable qualities.

It takes practice and learning, but is proving to be effective. Starting with relaxation techniques, and progressing through mindfulness practice, one can learn not only to calm their minds, but to foster an unshakable inner fortitude and unbreakable inner peace.  It also helps with confidence and mild to moderate self-esteem and body image issues.

A Glimmer of Hope

In a crazy world that appears to be fracturing at the core, mindfulness practice offers us a glimmer of hope.  Through practicing mindfulness, a person can understand themselves on a level far deeper than ordinary existence and sensory information can provide.  It can help us cut to the core of who we are as individuals, and as a society.

It is imperative to spread the knowledge of this practice and in doing so, help make the world a better place.  Recent events are stressing the need for deep personal understanding at an alarming rate.  Mass shootings and violence are becoming all too prevalent.  These events are screaming at us for a need to look into ourselves and learn who we are.

The Purpose of Practicing Mindfulness

It is my hope that with this site, I can help spread the practice of mindfulness to the masses. This site is my journey into practicing mindfulness and an attempt to clear out the filters of perception and reach the deeper truths of existence.
